Barry recently gained employment through Cedar SkillSET programme. Speaking about his experiences. Prior to joining Cedar SkillSET Barry has been unemployed for for two years. He was finding it challenging to secure employment again but had a real determination to succeed. He took the opportunity to access support with the programme and was successful in gaining a placement.

Barry said:

"Through Cedar's SkillSET programme advise and support I linked in with the NICCS placement programme where I secured an 8-week placement with J&K Coach Hire of Moneymore. Following this placement with further support from my SkillSet Employment Officer and employer I secured full-time paid employment with J&K Coach Hire”.

Employment Officer, Colum, added:

“Barry settled in very well to this new environment, he was very successful in his 8-week placement and showed motivation, commitment and competence in the role. I wish Barry well for the future and congratulate him on his new position.  We are extremely grateful to J&K for their provision of the opportunity and ongoing support throughout, which facilitated this success story for all concerned.”

What is SkillSET?

SkillSET is a new innovative programme of specialist employment preparation and training, for people with a disability / health condition who are economically inactive. Cedar is delivering the service across NI as part of a partnership of seven disability organisations.
