We are excited to be partnering with Rebecca Taylor a PhD researcher at the Ulster University. Rebecca is investigating how pain impacts the physical, emotional and social well-being of adults with cerebral palsy in comparison to those without the condition. We look forward to working with Rebecca and being involved in her research.

Rebecca Taylor, a PhD researcher at Ulster University.

My PhD is dedicated to improving the lives of adults with cerebral palsy (CP)—a mission inspired by my own experiences. Cerebral palsy is the most common lifelong neurological disability, and for many, it includes persistent, sometimes chronic pain that can deeply affect daily life. Living with cerebral palsy (right hemiplegia), I know first-hand how this pain can be misunderstood and inadequately addressed. That’s why I am passionate about changing the way pain in cerebral palsy is measured and understood.

About My Research

I am very lucky to have my PhD funded by the ESRC NINE DTP studentship. For my PhD, I’m developing an innovative pain measurement scale to assess the impact of pain on adults with cerebral palsy throughout their lives. This tool is not just about data—it’s about reflecting the real experiences of people with cerebral palsy and ensuring their voices are heard. By capturing a holistic view of how pain affects individuals emotionally, socially, and physically, this scale will provide healthcare professionals with the insights they need to improve care and support for individuals with cerebral palsy throughout their lives.

Join the Advisory Group

This research is guided by an advisory group of people with cerebral palsy, caregivers, and healthcare professionals, and I’d love for you to be involved! Members contribute by sharing their perspectives, providing feedback, and shaping the project to make it truly impactful. Whether you’re someone with cerebral palsy, a caregiver, or a professional, your insights are invaluable.

Starting after September 2025, the group will meet approximately five times between Study Two and Study Six. Each session will last around an hour, with occasional material reviews in between as needed. I will share more details about the schedule as I finalise the group and confirm dates.

Upcoming Opportunities

Soon, there will also be chances to participate in the study itself and contribute to the development of this survey tool. Keep an eye on Ulster University and the Cedar Foundation’s social media pages for updates on how you can get involved. Together, we can work towards meaningful change in how pain in cerebral palsy is understood and managed.
