At the start of July, Transitions Officers from the South Eastern and Belfast Trusts' Transitions teams welcomed a group of nine young people to a four-day interactive workshop designed to enhance their preparedness for life at university and college.

Topics covered included time and money management, confidence and communication, conflict resolution, accessing support and building resilience and all the participants contributed enthusiastically to the discussions and social activities.

The team, alongside peers in Northern and Western Health Trusts, also hosted a hybrid Department for Education consultation as part of the work on developing legislation to mandate education, employment or training Post-16 in Northern Ireland. Themes discussed around the table included the provision of sufficient Further Education places to meet demand on already oversubscribed courses; how to target the students most likely to leave school at 16 and additional support that could be put in place within schools, colleges and training providers to meet the needs of Post-16 learners with SEND and medical conditions.

Post-event, participants indicated that they had a better level of preparedness than previously and we are keeping our fingers crossed for their exam results in August!
