In September 2024, Malachi McNally was referred to Cedar’s Southern Floating Support Scheme. Seeking help with managing his benefits, budgeting, and addressing mounting debt, he was connected to Lorraine Murphy, a Floating Support Worker based in the Southern Trust.

The referral, facilitated by Sinead Murphy from the Adult Disabilities Team, marked the beginning of a partnership between Malachi and Cedar’s team.

Lorraine began by carrying out a comprehensive needs assessment, which identified key areas where Malachi required help. From there, Lorraine and Malachi worked to updatr his address with essential services - including his benefits and driver’s licence - and assisting with vital home adaptations. Lorraine also supported Malachi in liaising with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive to have a footpath and handrail installed in his back garden, enabling him to access the area safely.

Having received the help he needed, Malachi now intends to continue taking each day as it comes, embracing his passion for driving, which brings him to cherished destinations and allows him to discover new places and areas of natural beauty.

Reflecting on the support he received, Malachi shared:

“Lorraine went above and beyond in supporting me. Every concern I raised was listened to, taken seriously, and addressed with professionalism and care. I felt truly supported throughout the entire process. She was someone I could talk to openly, knowing she genuinely listened and understood my situation. Her patience and dedication meant a great deal to me, and she ensured everything was completed on my behalf. I remain incredibly grateful for the electricity Lorraine secured for me through the Bryson Fuel Scheme—it was a lifeline, especially during the colder months.”

Lorraine was equally appreciative of working with Malachi:

“It has been a pleasure working with Malachi. He was consistently warm and welcoming during every visit and showed genuine appreciation for the support provided. I wish Malachi all the very best as he continues to embrace life with positivity and strength.”
