When Lena connected with Cedar she had been facing the challenges of limited mobility as a result of COPD. However, Floating Support Worker, David, from Cedar Foundation's Elderly Floating Support service recognised opportunities that would offer Lena greater independence.

David began by conducting a thorough needs assessment, listening carefully to Lena's concerns and aspirations. Together, they explored a variety of options and discovered that Lena might be entitled to Attendance Allowance, a benefit she had previously applied for but had not been granted. David offered to support her through the process, easing any anxieties and providing unwavering support.

With David's assistance, Lena successfully applied for Attendance Allowance and was awarded the higher rate. This opened doors to further support, including Pension Credit, which she also received. Lena's financial stability was strengthened considerably.

David's support extended into further avenues to improve Lena's sense of inclusion in the community. He supported Lena to obtain a Blue Badge, increasing her mobility and independence. He also connected her with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service for a home fire safety check and arranged for an assisted bin lift from Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council. 

These practical solutions have made a massive difference in Lena's daily life.
