Keith shares his experience with Floating Support I began my journey with Cedar's Floating Support Service in October 2024 and they have been a great support for me during this time. I was initially referred to Cedar by the Social Worker at my doctor's surgery and my case was taken up very quickly. I had just been made homeless and was staying at a friend's house which was unsatisfactory to live in. The property was very remote with no amenities nearby. There was also no heat and during the winter months it was extremely distressing and bad for my health, as damp had set in. My mental health had plummeted, and it was the lowest it had ever been. Orla, my Floating Support Worker helped me to engage with my Housing Officer to maximize housing points. She organised assistance in collecting supporting letters which was a major help as it took the pressure off. In the end I was offered my own property. Unsure where to start, Orla reassured me that she would assist me in the process of moving and organising furniture etc. and together we contacted places who helped with furniture and white goods for my home. Orla referred me to the food bank where I received a food parcel. With the assistance of Orla, we also changed addresses on all my utility bills and she helped me to understand letters regarding my new tenancy. We worked out my budget and how much I have left after the bills have been paid. We are still working together and have a few support goals still to complete. "I never knew about the Cedar Foundation before, but I am so grateful they have helped me. I was very depressed and could not see the future, but I am so happy and content. I have the confidence to ask for help when needed and know once my support is finished, I will be able to live more independently, and I know Cedar is there to help in the future if I need support."
