Residents, families and staff gathered at Cedar’s Karuna Residential Care Home on 20th February, for a joyful 'Have A Heart for Cedar' Formal.

The event formed part of our 85th anniversary celebrations, bringing together current and former Karuna residents, families, and colleagues from across Cedar’s Living Options services; everyone was treated to a night of entertainment, recognition and community spirit.

Guests were welcomed in style by a lively piper band, setting a celebratory tone as attendees arrived dressed for the occasion. The evening was hosted by compère Spencer Wright, who guided guests through the programme of performances, speeches, and awards.

An early highlight was a performance from the Hawthorns Melody Hands Makaton Choir. The choir, made up of adults with learning disabilities, delighted the audience with a series of songs performed using Makaton communication. Their energetic and uplifting performance captured the inclusive spirit of the evening.

Guests then heard a welcome address from Jillian Patchett Boyce, Director of Operations for Living Options at Cedar, who reflected on Karuna’s long history and the importance of celebrating together as a community.

Following the welcome, guests enjoyed dinner while being entertained by Belfast Ukulele Jam, a multi-award-winning group known for their upbeat, singalong style.

A key moment of the evening was the Have a Heart Awards, which recognised the achievements and contributions of residents and staff across Karuna, Twisel, and Croft. Nominations for the awards came directly from residents, families, and colleagues, highlighting the everyday acts of kindness, perseverance, teamwork and dedication that shape life across our services.

The formal proceedings concluded with a raffle led by event organiser Hannah Greenaway, who thanked the supporters and donors who had contributed prizes and helped make the evening possible.

As the speeches came to a close, guests were invited to the dance floor to round off the evening, bringing a memorable celebration of Cedar's community spirit to a fitting finish!
