Meet Ivaylo and Tonka, a couple who faced the daunting challenge of finding suitable adapted accommodation. Ivaylo's health had been deteriorating, making their private rental increasingly unsuitable, and the financial strain was taking its toll. They were referred to Cedar's Floating Support service in January 2024, feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about the future.

Lorraine Murphy, their dedicated Floating Support Worker, stepped in to provide guidance and support. She listened carefully to their concerns, recognising that their needs extended beyond just housing. Lorraine worked tirelessly with Ivaylo and Tonka, helping them navigate the complex housing system, access benefits, and even deal with their existing landlord.

In March 2024, their perseverance paid off! Ivaylo and Tonka secured a specially adapted apartment perfectly suited to Ivaylo's needs. They moved into their new home the following month, filled with hope and excitement for a fresh start. Lorraine's support didn't end there. She helped Ivaylo and Tonka access the benefits they were entitled to, including the "Limited Capability to Work" element of Universal Credit and housing costs support. She even secured a discretionary support grant to help them purchase essential items for
their new apartment.

With Lorraine's assistance, Ivaylo and Tonka obtained Smart bus passes, making visiting family and accessing the community easier. Lorraine also connected them with local health services and helped implement home aids and strategies to support their daily living skills. Ivaylo now attends the Station Road Resource Centre, a daycare setting that provides him with engaging activities and support. This has allowed Tonka to rediscover her passion for painting, finding creative expression and fulfilment in her new home.

"Incredible organisation, respect for what you do" Ivaylo and Tonka shared, expressing their gratitude for Cedar's support. "Lorraine was someone we could both talk to, who understood our situation and helped us a lot."

Lorraine is equally appreciative of their journey together: "Ivaylo and Tonka were a pleasure to work with. Very welcoming on every visit and very appreciative of any work completed. I wish them both well in their new accommodation and life adventures."
